The link between ADHD and multi-vitamins has been part of much debate over the years. In fact I remember years ago when my Auntie suspected my cousin of having ADHD, she used to give them an omega 3 capsule before school as opposed to seeking a diagnosis (each to their own).
Recently I learnt something about ADHD in the last few months; most of us with ADHD tend to have a magnesium and/ or zinc deficiency. I wouldn’t have discovered this little-known fact except for my SAD (seasonal affective disorder). Last winter I started taking vitamin D straight off the bat to stop my mental health taking a nose dive, then I saw on a fb group that Zinc helps with it too. Then I was researching ways to sleep better in the winter and heard about magnesium. Now several months later I’m literally a walking medicine cabinet.
The biggest question is I have I noticed any difference? It’s difficult with ADHD to be fair as we’re hardly the most bodily aware people out there but I must admit I have noticed a difference with the omega 3 capsules when it comes to focus. The magnesium seems to help to regulate my mood better I think and Zinc well apart from my nails being a lot better then not really.
Of course, vitamins must only be able to do much because otherwise they’d be prescribed medication, having said that I know a parent whose child is on something called Equasym for ADHD and it’s practically a mix of fish oil and a few other things.
My advice? Just like everybody else, try some of these over-the-counter vitamins for a week or so to see if they work for you. For the sake of a couple of pounds/ dollars etc. it’s definitely worth taking the chance. Anything for a slightly easier life ey?
