My Unexpected Discovery

Wow, today for the first time in a long time I actually feel like a functional human being. I couldn’t even tell you with too much certainty what it was, because I know the sunshine has been streaming lately and that usually does have a good effect on me.

Yet I can’t help but wonder if the reason is because this morning, I started taking electrolytes for a completely unrelated health issue. I’ve always struggled with cramp in my calve muscles and over the years I’ve had sports therapy and cupping for it. Then I read that electrolytes might help me perform better at the gym and I thought why not? What have I got to lose?

“Sometimes the best practical coping strategies are the ones we discover by accident.”

ADHD Girl

Well, we were on holiday last week so I’ve only just got round to taking them and wow the clarity I have without brain fog is unbelievable. Don’t misunderstand me, I’m not telling you I’ve found the cure to ADHD, but the difference was so tangible that it led me to research on whether electrolytes are actually given as a form of treatment.

What I discovered is that electrolytes not only help water where it needs to go in your body, but it also helps with nerve function that supports the brain. Meaning that they could literally help you to think better.

“I drink lots of water so didn’t think I needed electrolytes but I’m happy to be wrong on this occasion.”

Now I’m usually quite sceptical, I’m not one of these people who think these stickers help behaviour or mushroom gummies will help me to focus better, but what I will say is that for those of you who listened to the podcast episode on ADHD and Biology (if not you can listen here) then there might be a link between certain deficiencies and improving our ADHD.

I’m not guaranteeing electrolytes will work, but what I will say is they are harmless (when used as directed), so it’s definitely worth a try. I’ve got so much done in the last few days and this might be the answer I’ve been looking for. Or it could just be another amazing coincidence as it sometimes goes with ADHD.

Catch you in two weeks ADHDers and Allies. I can’t believe we’re almost in May. I feel like January and Feburary went super slow, but then March and April, I blinked and I missed them. Luckily’ I’ll be talking about the ADHD Time Warp in my next blog article.
