Raising awareness of all things ADHD! - ADHD pexels emilio sanchez hernandez 285921208 13392033

Hello my lovely readers! I’m not dead! I’ve not given up! I’ve just had a busy few weeks and then I was away for a week in Benidorm with my family. As you can tell my mood has picked up significantly due to a week’s worth of sunshine and 75F plus temperatures. However, it’s not back to reality with a great big bang.

Last year we went on a family holiday to Benidorm it was just me and the kids, thank God for the Tui kids club is what I will say as it enabled me to have some good quality downtime where I didn’t have to worry about what the children were up to at all times. After a few days of chilling, I ended up writing the first act of a play. It’s almost like once my body relaxed my brain was kick started into having awesome ideas. That play is in the midst of becoming a reality at some point by the way, but more on that at a later date.

“When our minds are relaxed, which granted for ADHD isn’t that often, we usually have our best ideas.”

This year my cousin joined us on our family holiday which meant there was as many adults as there were children, which was a huge relief. One because it meant I had some company and wasn’t like a saddo drinking by myself at the bar while the kids did the kids disco and two single parenting is hard work so even if you have someone around for emotional support it makes for a good experience.

It definitely felt like a different holiday vibe this time, I felt made more memories then I got to relax which was fine, I still got some plot writing done because you know my ADHD brain rarely switches off. Anyway, I’ve hit the ground running since coming back, no actually that’s a lie, it’s more of a slow crawl. The point is I’m moving forward and getting things done.

“This time I made sure I went with no expectations. I thought if I have a good idea or do some writing that’s good, but I’m going to relax first and foremost.”

What about you ADHDers and allies? What do you do to relax? Do you even get the time? What’s your idea of a fun holiday? In a society that’s constantly living life in the fast line I think downtime, particularly for those with ADHD, is more important than ever.

See you next time ADHDers, normal service has resumed so another blog post is coming in two weeks.
