Peaceful Sounds

Right — on to the next amazing thing that’s going to cure ADHD! Ha, I wish. Those of us with ADHD know there’s no cure — only things that help us cope day to day, whether that’s medication, therapy, setting alarms, etc.

The trick is to find a coping strategy that works for us, as individuals, because what helps one person might do nothing for another.

That said, I’ve recently discovered something that’s made a pretty big impact for me — and that’s sound baths.

Don’t get me wrong, the first time I heard the term I was extremely sceptical. I thought it was all about the subconscious and crystals — and even then I was like, “How can noise help you switch off?”

Although, to be fair, I’ve mentioned before how relaxing I find Classic FM these days…

Anyway, I met up with some friends back in February — one of whom (including herself!) suspects she has undiagnosed ADHD — and she told me she’d been to a sound bath the month before. It helped her brain switch off for a whole 24 hours. I mean — who wouldn’t want that?!

“Meditation has always been hard for me as I imagine it is for a lot of ADHDers, but sound baths are something slightly different.

So, I gave it a go. Worst case, I’d lose an hour.

Well… first I got lost on the way and arrived a few minutes late — so my stress levels were sky-high to start with. Then it was time to lie down, close my eyes, and listen as different instruments were played around me — including glass crystal bowls.

It sounds so simple, but wow, what a difference it made. I don’t know if it was the vibrations or the sounds themselves, but I felt totally present in the room.

The next few days, I felt like a different person. I could actually think straight — no chaos, no background buzz. That week I was massively productive. Weeding, tidying, laundry, odd jobs I’d been putting off forever — all done.

Maybe it was a fluke. But I went back the next month… and had the exact same result: a few days of pure peace.

The sound bath I attend only runs once a month — but if I can get just a few peaceful days without overthinking and anxiety, that’s absolutely worth it.

I’ve been raving about it to everyone, and this month my auntie is coming with me.

I’m not saying it’s for everyone — but I am saying: give it a go. You never know what might help.

Catch you in two weeks, ADHDers!
